Rosie in the Secret Garden and Sandcastles in the Sky!

Rosie has made it to the garden. We brought her out on Tuesday. She looks great in the garden!

Her husband Jack lives in the garden too. She can keep on eye on him now!

While we were in the garden we had a look at the growth.

We saw the herbs we planted before Easter. They are growing well.

Some of the Indian daisies we planted are growing slowly.

We saw potatoes, spring onions, peas, raspberries, gooseberries and more!
Thanks for all your help in the garden John.

When we went back to the class we wrote Rosie is in the Secret Garden and drew fantastic pictures.

Sandcastles

We painted sandcastles last week using yellow paint. We then used blue for the sky.
This week we used sponges and white paint to put clouds in the sky. We put glue on the yellow paint and sprinkled sand on top. We glued a lollipop stick and a piece of fabric on top of the sandcastle to make a flag.

Don't they look fantastic?!

Writing

We learned to write three new letters this week.

We learned to write the letter j.
You start at the dot and go down, down under the line, kick it back and put a dot on top.

We learned to write the letter x.
You start at the dot and slant down, slant down.

We learned to write the letter z.
You start at the dot and go straight back, slant down and go straight back.

Now we can write every letter! We practised writing them again.

We also did another sentence in our writing copies.
I look for the little red bear.

Sight

We learned about our eyes this week. We can look and see with our eyes.
We played games with our partners. One child did actions and the other child had to be their mirror. It was great fun!

We talked about what it would be like if our eyes didn't work. Some of us had a turn wearing a blindfold.

We noticed that some people wear glasses to help them see better. Some of us tried on teacher's glasses!

Money

We can recognise the 1c, 2c and 5c coins.
We can sort them.
We know how much 1c coins we need to buy different things.
We know what we can buy with 3c and 4c.

Five Little Ducks

We sing the counting song Five Little Ducks. Sing along!

We had to make sure our picture had five little ducks in it.

Sight Words 3

We have learned ten more sight words.

To introduce each word I read a story which contains the word on each page.

You can read these stories with your children. Ask your child to find the words they know.
Some stories are a pdf file from mothershubbard.com, others are in powerpoint.

We are a Crafty Bunch!

The past couple weeks we have been making fantastic fish. One week we made fish using tubes, paper cuttings and crepe paper ribbons. The following week we made fish using paper plates and paint. We displayed them in the hall for Friday, the day of our Craft Fair.

On Friday we visited the hall and had a look at all the crafts made by the children in the other classes. We saw fantastic things!

PE

One day we played with hula hoops on the yard. We had great fun! Have a look!

Scarecrow

We picked a name for our scarecrow. We decided on Rosie. Isn't it a beautiful name?
We brought in clothes for Rosie.

We will put her in the Secret Garden next week.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Last week we read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

This week we made a very long caterpillar. Each of us stuck different shades of green and blue paper onto a plate. We put the plates together and here he is! Say hello to our very hungry caterpillar!

Did you see the butterflies in the picture? We made those too. Teacher gave us each a page folded in half. We opened the page and then she put a blob of paint on one half of the paper. We folded the paper back again and rubbed as best we could to spread the paint. When we used lots of colours they became beautiful butterflies!

We drew beautiful pictures of the story.

We know how to say these caterpillar rhymes.

The Fuzzy Wuzzy Caterpillar

The fuzzy wuzzy caterpillar,
Wiggled down that tree.
He wiggled long, he wiggled short,
He wiggled right at me.
I put him in a covered box,
"Don't go away!" I said.
But when I looked inside again,
There's a butterfly instead.
Oh, I could never make it, even if I tried.
Only God in heaven can make a butterfly.

Little Arabella Miller

Little Arabella Miller
Found a woolly caterpillar.
First ot crawled upon her mother,
Then upon her baby brother.
All said "Arabella Miller,
Take away that caterpillar."

Butterfly Life Cycle

We learned the life cycle of the butterfly.
First, mammy butterfly lays the egg.
Then the egg hatches and out comes a tiny caterpillar.
After he eats and becomes fully grown, he makes a cocoon around his body.
Finally, after two weeks in the cocoon, he nibbles his way out and is now a butterfly!

We sequenced the pictures.

We played this game in school.

Writing

We learned to write the letter f.
You start at the dot and go back over the hump, straight down to the line and cross it near the top.

We also did another sentence in our writing copies.
Here is the red and yellow house.

Number 5

We made sets of 5 in our copies.

Play this counting game up to 5 or 10.
