Back at School and Having Fun!

We are back in school after the Easter holidays. We had a great time but we are happy to be back in school. We drew pictures of some of the things we got up to during the holidays. Have a look at some of our work. We wrote Easter holidays. We are getting so good at writing.

Animals

We are learning about animals at the moment. We sing these animal songs: Jig-a-Jog, Jig, Listen and Old McDonald. Let's sing along to Old McDonald.

We can sing Old McDonald in Irish. It's called Chuaigh mé go dtí an feirm.

We painted some animals last week. Teacher told us to paint two of the same animal. Have a look  at some of the animals we painted. Can you figure our which animals they are?

Next week you will find out why we had to paint two!

We drew cows and wrote the word. We know that the cow lives on the farm. She gives the farmer milk. The milk comes from her udders. You gently pull the teat to get the milk out.

Planting

We planted cress seeds. They were small seeds. We all had a chance to plant some seeds. We sprinkled them on top of the soil.

We left the pot on the window sill so it gets light and heat from the sun. We will water the seeds everyday. We wonder how long it will take the cress seeds to grow!

Smell

We explored our sense of smell. We use our nose to smell. We talked about smells we like and smells we don't like. Teacher brought in different things for us to smell.

We guessed most of them correctly! We guessed the curry powder smell. One girl said it smelled like chicken curry dinner. We guessed the fruit juice was orange and mango. We named both the fruits. One girl said the vanilla smells like the vanilla pods her mammy uses. All of us knew perfume - our mammies use it! We found the dettol hard to guess. One boy said the bathroom and dettol can be used to clean the bathroom so it was a great guess! We did not know what the fish sauce smell was. We did not like that smell at all! Teacher didn't even take the lid off the tub and we could still smell it! Look at the picture below to see one boy's reaction after smelling the fish sauce!

Shopping in Scoil Mhuire

The big girls in fifth and sixth class had a shop in the hall on Thursday and Friday. They made amazeballz (stress balls) and pipetastics (decorated pencils) to sell in the shop. We brought money to school and went to the hall to make our purchases. We were so happy with what we bought!

Thank you for making amazeballs and pipetastics girls!

Writing

We are doing really well with our writing. We can write three more letters.

We learned to write the letter i.
You start at the dot and go straight down to the line with a kick and you dot it on top.

We learned to write the letter l.
You start at the dot and go straight down, down, down to the line with a kick.

We learned to write the letter t.
You start at the dot and go straight down, down, down to the line with a kick and you cross it near the top.

Wide and Narrow

We learned about wide and narrow. We can make wide shapes and narrow shapes. We can do jumping jacks by jumping out wide and in narrow very quickly!

We sorted pictures into narrow and wide.

We coloured the gates that were wide enough to let the animals through.

Number 4

We are learning about the number 4.

We say this rhyme:

4 red berries
Left upon the tree.
"Thanks," said the blackbird
"That will do for me."
He ate numbers 1 and 2,
He ate number 3,
And when he ate number 4
There were none left to see.
