We are back at school after the mid-term break and we were busy learning all about fruit this past week. One day our teacher brought fruit into our classroom.
Ms Fox cut the fruit and we all tasted a piece. We had pineapple, apples, clementines, pears, grapes, strawberries and bananas.
We touched the fruit. Some fruit was smooth like the apple and the pear. The pineapple is really spiky and rough.
We learned to wash the fruit before we eat it. We talked about where the different fruits grow and what they grow on. Apples, strawberries and pears can grow in Ireland but the other fruit we tasted grow in hot countries.
Here are some more pictures from our fruit tasting.
Our Favourite Fruit
The following day we picked our favourite fruit between the apple, the orange, the strawberry and the banana. We all took one smiley face each and stuck it over our favourite fruit. Can you figure out which fruit is Room 2's favourite?
As you can see, the orange is our favourite fruit! It has the most smiley faces.
Sets of Fruit
We grouped fruit into sets of strawberries, sets of apples, sets of oranges and sets of pineapples.
We cut out the fruit and stuck them to the correct pages.
We made a fruit book and it is in our library. We love reading it.
Painting Pears
We are painting pears in the morning using yellow and green paint. Some pears are yellow, some are green and some are yellow and green. Next week we are going to do something really fun with our pears. You will have to wait and see!
Food Songs
Everyday we sing The Farmer has an Orchard and The Food Song. We also watch Do You Like Broccoli Ice Cream? It is such a silly song. We love singing along! Have a listen to it.
We finished the ice cream cones in our writing books. We made chocolate ice cream, orange ice cream, strawberry ice cream, rainbow ice cream and some of us even made broccoli ice cream!
Handa's Surprise
We read the story Handa's Surprise. Handa collects fruit to bring to her friend Akeyo in another village. She meets animals along the way and you won't believe what those hungry animals do! You can listen to the story on the video below.
Wow Room 2 you've really been working hard learning about fruit!!
