Crazy Over Clothes!

We continued learning about clothes this week. We were delighted to find that the Dress Up Box had been added to our morning activities. Have a look at us dressing up. The nurse outfit proved to be very popular!

Design a T-Shirt

We worked hard to make beautiful t-shirts. We put our designer hats on and created these terrific t-shirts! Here they are hanging on the line. We stuck pieces of material to the paper using glue.

Waterproof materials

We turned into scientists during the week. It was our job to sort materials into two sets, waterproof and not waterproof. We had some different materials - glove, plastic bag, scarf, tin foil, wellie, t-shirt, tissue and paper. We made our guesses first. This is what we guessed.

Hard at work.

Everything turned out as expected. We found out that the tissue, the scarf, the t-shirt and the glove are not waterproof. The water went through those materials. It even ripped the tissue. The wellie, the plastic bag and the tin foil were waterproof - the water just ran off them.

Gaeilge

Rocaí Rua is helping us learn the Gaeilge words for some of our clothes. He can't believe how clever we are. We tried on some clothes and we said "Tá cóta orm." "Tá scairf orm." "Tá hata orm." We sang a song, "Tá cóta mór ar an múinteoir" and we changed the words the sing the names of the boys and girls in the class. We learned about mór agus beag.

Baby Clothes

We had a look through a box of baby clothes.

We talked about the differences between our clothes now and our clothes when we were babies. The size of the clothes was the biggest difference! We don't wear babygros or nappies anymore... though the onesies are back in fashion for sleepwear! We drew clothes on a baby and coloured pictures as the big boys and girls we are now.

Long and Short

We worked together to make two scarves in the classroom, a long scarf and a short scarf.

We made sets of long hair and short hair. Each table came up in turn and we sorted ourselves into the correct set.

We created long lines of camels, fruit, bears, links, cubes.

We played games on the IWB. Click the picture to play the game.
