Halloween Fun

Halloween is coming and we have been dressing up in class as a Cailleach and a Púca. Rocaí Rua taught us a rhyme as Gaeilge (in Irish).

Is mise an chailleach
Is mise an púca
Hí hí a deir an chailleach
Búúú a deir an púca

We learned three songs about Halloween. We learned The Witch Rides and Five Little Witches. Our favourite song however was Witch Song. Press the play button below to hear us sing it.

We learned Halloween counting rhymes. We can recite 10 Black Cats and 5 Little Pumpkins. We love 5 Little Pumpkins. Here is the video we watch in class.

We can say the rhyme too! Listen to us reciting it.

We coloured and cut pumpkins. We are getting so good at cutting. We brought our pumpkins home on Friday.

Fabulous Fashion in Room 2

Our teacher told us at the start of the week that we would be in a fashion show. Every class would be making accessories out of waste materials. As we have been using a great deal of paper in Room 2 doing our colourful collages and leaf rubbings we have quite a lot of waste paper. We decided to decorate a strip of card with our waste paper. We are using it again. We are recycling! Can you guess what we are making?

HEADBANDS!

We made fantastic headbands. They are colourful and very fashionable! Don't we look great?

On Thursday we had a fashion show in our school. Everyone had the chance to model what they made. We sat on the steps watching the other classes modelling.

We had our turn halfway through the show. Here are some of us strutting our stuff!

We had a great day.

Lovely Leaves, Happy Hedgehogs and Amazing Apples

Last time we posted we had just gone on our autumn walk. We collected leaves. We took rubbings of the leaves. Look how we presented our leaf rubbings. We made two autumn trees, one with our rubbings and the other with the leaves we gathered. We think they look just like real autumn trees!

We used thin strips of brown paper to create the hedgehog's spines. During these two weeks we are learning a lot about the hedgehog. The hedgehog goes for a really long sleep over the winter. This is called hibernation. The hedgehog eats a very big dinner and then finds a nest to sleep for the the winter. Here we are sequencing the hedgehog's journey.

We drew spines on the hedgehog in our writing book.

We learned a song called The Farmer has an Orchard. An orchard is a garden where fruit trees grow. We made our own apple tree. Have a look. We coloured and cut the apples all by ourselves.

We finished the apple tree in our writing book.

Autumn Leaves are Falling Down

The boys and girls in Room 2 have been very busy learning about autumn. We went on an autumn walk in the church grounds. We walked through a secret gate to get there. Here we are lining up ready to explore!
Autumn Walk (5)
As we walked we heard crunching under our feet. Looking down we saw lots of leaves on the ground. We saw red, orange, yellow and brown leaves!
Autumn Walk (6)
We looked up into the trees to examine them. We noticed the leaves are changing colour. Some leaves are still green but we saw the ends of them turning yellow. Also the trees are becoming bare. The leaves are falling from the trees. We sang a song about autumn leaves, "Autumn leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down. Autumn leaves are falling down, aren't they pretty."
Ms Fox told us to collect one leaf each. We searched all over the garden for the leaves.

We found some leaves!

Here are all the leaves we collected. Look at all the different colours.
We are going to use these leaves for a very special autumn display. You will have to wait for our next blog post to see how we use them!

The School Tour

During the first two weeks of October we learned all about our school. We discussed the people who help us in our school, such as the teachers, the principal, the caretaker, the secretary and the cleaners. We toured the school on Thursday. We had great fun walking around the school and finding rooms we had never seen before.
Here we are outside our classroom ready to go for our walk. We had to remember to be quiet when walking in the corridor as other classes were working very hard. We did a great job walking quietly!

First we went into the secretary’s office. Our secretary’s name is Mary. She works very hard. She has a lot of folders in her office. She has a computer, a printer and a photocopier. She even has two phones!

Next we walked into our principal’s office. Her name is Ms Burke-Heneghan. She has so many books in her office. She says she has read all of them! She has lots of files in her office too. She must be very busy.

We walked up the stairs and found a room like a kitchen. Josie said that the room smelled like coffee! We looked around and figured out it must be where the teachers eat their lunch. This room is called the staff room.

Next we went into a classroom upstairs. There are lots of big girls in this class. It is called Fifth Class. The teacher is Ms McMahon. She is very nice and asked us our names. We sang a song for the girls in Fifth Class. They clapped and said we were wonderful.

Look at us walking down the stairs. We are holding the bar and walking so carefully. Ms Fox was very proud of us.
